WHAT IS STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION?
Structural Integration is a series of bodywork sessions (usually 12) designed to free, lengthen, and align the fascial net. Fascia is the protective layer of connective tissue that surrounds the muscles, bones and organs of the body-it gives muscles their shape and the body its structure. This fascial net organizes our tissues, keeps things in place, and connects everything to everything else.
The continuing pull of gravity, the stress of everyday activities, and physical injuries can pull the body out of alignment. The fascia gradually shortens, tightens, thickens and adjusts to accommodate misalignments. This can create chronically tight muscles with trigger points. Nerves can get impinged, causing numbness or shooting pain. Breathing can become shallow and circulation is hindered. Your overall health and vitality suffers.
By releasing, lengthening and repositioning restricted fascia, the body can return to its structurally optimal position. Learning to feel and recognize the old habits, gives you a new found awareness. You will discover new ways of using your body that's less taxing, providing support for a more functional, pain-free way of life.
